Enrichment Programs - Computer Technology
The computer lab has 26 computers that are networked together with Charter Cable High Speed Web access. Some of the lab computers have CD Rewritable drives. The lab also has one DVD Rewritable drive. These drives are used for a variety of purposes including producing materials for students.
The printer in the lab is a Xerox Phaser 850 color printer. The ink is a solid that looks much like wax. It produces a great amount of colors and hues. It leaves a shiny appearance on the printed page and is photo quality.
Student work is saved on the school wide network, with each student having their own folder.
Elementary students use the computer lab to learn about computer (as dictated by the EALR Curriculum) programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and practice their skills by working on assignments as requested by their teachers. Teachers may schedule class time in the lab to provide students with opportunities to work on specific assignments and research. Students begin keyboarding in the second grade.
Each middle school student has one quarter per year of computer enrichment class. During the enrichment class students work on projects using PowerPoint, Word, Excel and learn how to use a digital camera.
The computer instructor also directs the school ink cartridge and cell phone recycling program providing additional funds for the computer lab. These funds are used to purchase supplemental materials, software and hardware.
