Bus Service

The school bus operates in the morning and afternoon. Children living in the lower valley only may utilize the bus service for a nominal monthly fee. The bus makes several stops: Toppenish, Wapato and Harrah.

Before and After School Child Care Program

Before School Child Care provides licensed supervision for students in Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. It is located in the Mother Joseph Center. The hours are 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. A nominal fee is charged.

After School Child Care provides licensed supervision for students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. It is located in the Mother Joseph Center. The hours are 3:15 PM to 6:15 PM. The After School Care Program provides a healthy snack. There is a registration fee and an hourly rate is charged.

Hot Lunch Program

Hot lunch is provided each full school day. A menu is sent home at the beginning of each month. All students may participate in the federally funded government lunch program. Reduced price and free lunches are available if a family meets the requirements. Lunches must be pre-paid in the St. Joseph Office. There is a salad bar available daily for students in the fourth through eighth grades. A Swak lunch is also available for second and third grades. Hot lunch, salad bar and Swak are all the same price.

I Got Caught Doing Something Good

“I Got Caught” is a positive discipline program focused on catching children doing positive or targeted behaviors. Tickets are distributed to children grades 1 to 3.

The children fill in the lines on the ticket, cut the ticket in half, and take one half of the ticket to their teacher. The other half of the ticket is put in a collection tub/basket for a drawing each Tuesday mornings. On Tuesday morning, two children from each grade level are drawn. Those who are drawn receive a pencil, a certificate, a sticker, and a free dress coupon. Their name is displayed on a decorated bulletin board.

One in 10 tickets has a special star on it. If the "I Got Caught" ticket that the child picks has a star on it, the student also can go to the St. Joseph’s Office or Mr. Pleger’s Office to collect an additional prize.

Guidelines:

  1. Select specific behaviors that will be focused on during the week. (Generally 2 or 3)
  2. Minimum of 5 tickets given out each day
  3. Classroom incentives (100 tickets = a popcorn and video party for the class)
  4. Pass out tickets for appropriate or target behaviors to children in transition times,
    recess, lunch, assemblies, etc.
  5. Tickets are not to be given to the children in a teacher's own class.

This student reward program promotes the School's Core Values:

  • Respect
  • Love
  • Faithfulness
  • Excellence
  • Responsibility

Peace Partner Program

One of the delights of the students from grades one through eight is having a year-long friend called a Peace Partner. A very special bond develops between the older and the younger student.

Eighth graders have fourth graders, seventh and the third graders, the sixth have partners from the second grade and the fifth and first graders are partners.

There are special times when they are together, i.e. sit together in liturgies, special lunches, fun activities, work together on religious education projects, and celebrations. On special days they exchange gifts or plan surprises for each other.
