| Message to parents: The descriptions contained within the dress code have been written to inform students and parents of items and styles that are acceptable to wear while attending St. Joseph/Marquette Catholic School. If an item or style is not listed within the dress code it must not be worn to school. Students are encouraged to bring an item of question to the administration for approval before it is worn. |
If you have questions about the appropriateness of a clothing item, please bring it to Mr. Pleger for approval BEFORE you remove the tags or wear it.
Shirts may have cap, short, 3/4 length or long sleeves
Polo Shirts:
Shall have a collar
Shall have Buttons or placket zipper
May be Striped, printed or solid color
If worn, the underneath shirt shall be tucked in
Shall have a straight bottom hem
Logos shall be located on left chest (1 inch square or less)
Shall be the correct size for student (not too tight or loose)Dress Shirt (button up):
Made of cotton material
May be striped, printed or solid color
A plain white, crew neck, short sleeve T-shirt shall be worn underneath
Shall be buttoned at all times (exception-top two buttons)
Shall be the correct size for student (not too tight or loose)
Shirt must be tucked in at all timesMock or Turtle Neck shirts:
May be striped, printed or solid color
Shall have a straight bottom hem (if not, it shall be tucked in)
Logos on left chest (1 inch square or less)
Shall be the correct size for student (not too tight or loose)
May be striped, printed or solid color
A polo, mock or turtleneck shall be worn underneath
If worn, the underneath shirt shall be tucked in

Shall not have a hood
Shall be worn right side out
May be pull over, zip or button front

Shall be the correct size for student (not too tight or loose)
May be worn indoors (classrooms, cafeteria, assemblies, Church, etc.)
May be worn during transitions between classes or outside only
May be print, plaid or solid color
Shall be made of COTTON OR CORDUROY MATERIAL
Hem be no more than 2” above the top of the kneecap when standing
Slits to be no more than 2” above the top of the kneecap when standing
Shall be the correct size for student (not clingy, form fitting or too tight)

Tennis, oxford or slip-on shoes with rubber soles
Slip-on shoes must cover the whole foot (like a tennis shoe)
Shoes must be worn and tied properly
Must tie, buckle, Velcro, strap or zip on
May have one inch heel or less
Hair styles shall be conservative and neat
Bangs shall be above the eyebrows
Hair must be kept out of students’ eyes
Boy’s hair shall be off the collar and ears
Student’s hair shall be their unaltered natural color
Out of the ordinary or fad haircuts or styles are unacceptable
Streaking, highlighting, bleaching or dying hair is unacceptable
Boys are not permitted to wear earrings at any time during school or
during school related activities.
Earrings may be worn in ears only.
Earrings shall be 1 inch or less in length
Rings, necklaces and/or bracelets may be worn in moderation.
Makeup may be worn but must be in moderation.
Light blush
Light mascara (same color as lashes)
Clear lip-gloss
Clear nail polish
The 1st Monday of each month students may wear free dress
Pants, Jeans and shorts must follow dress code except in color
T-shirts, sweatshirts or sweaters; any color and correct size
Logos, writing, pictures, etc. will be appropriate for school
Skirts and Jumpers fall under listed dress code descriptions
Shall be the correct size for student (not clingy, form fitting or too tight)
Bib overalls, tank tops, athletic type shorts and sweat pants
(including mesh, nylon, cotton, or spandex) are unacceptable.
If a student is found to be out of dress code, the student will be directed to go to the principal’s office. An administrator will review the dress code with the student. If the dress code violation can be corrected the student will do so immediately and return to class. If the violation can not be corrected, the student will call a parent/guardian to explain the violation and ask him/her to bring what is needed to correct the violation.
The student will then wait in the library until the violation is corrected or the school day ends.
Interpretation of the dress code is under the discretion of the administration.
