School Board
The St. Joseph/Marquette school board is an advisory board to the Principal.
This organization forms and adopts policies pertaining to the well being
of the school. The board does work closely with the administration, by
evaluating the effectiveness of the education program, and by direction
the sound financial operation of the school.
The board is made up of both elected and ex-officio voting members. The
nine elected members are elected by St. Joseph/Marquette parents and serve
a three- year term. There are three positions that expire each year; and
all parents of children attending St. Joseph Marquette are eligible for
election to the board.
In addition to those elected, the pastor, the principal, the vice principal,
the parent’s club president, a parish council rep. and a SRB foundation
rep. also sits on this board as ex-officio voting members.
The school board meets once a month, on the third Thursday. At every
meeting, each of the six standing committees reports to the entire board.
The Personnel committee assists the principal in interviewing,
hiring and terminating personnel. Teachers are hired according to the
philosophy and objectives of the school, as well as their academic preparation,
and according to federal, state, and diocesan guidelines.
The Mission Integration committee has the responsibility
of preserving the mission of the school. This committee works closely
with the teachers to integrate the school’s mission in their curriculum.
The Curriculum committee’s job is to continually
review the curriculum offerings for each grade, make recommendations for
changes, additions, and deletions, evaluate the textbooks used and recommend
a time sequence for the replacing of each series. They also look for specific
way to meet the need of the very gifted; as well as those with learning
needs.
The Building and Grounds committee has the overall
responsibility for the operation of the St. Joseph/Marquette facilities.
They are to budget maintenance funds, to recommend funding for maintenance
and repair and to establish priorities for capital improvements. They
are the one’s responsible for the visible changes you see around
our buildings, such as replacing windows and carpet and the new receptionist’s
window in the St. Joseph building.
The Long Range planning committee, with the direction
of the school board, looks at the long-range needs and goals of the school
and makes recommendations t the school board on how to best achieve those
goals.
The Finance committee works together for the financial
stability of the school. They are involved in the approval of major expenditures.
They research and suggest better ways of putting the financial needs of
the school before the public. They work closely with the parent’s
board officers, who are the chief fundraising group of the school. The
Finance committee also prepares and presents a budget to the school board
for its approval each year.
The Technology committee works on updating our computer
lab and assuring that we continue assessing all facets of new technology
for the lab and offices.
